Soil tests are an important tool in understanding what you can do to give your tree, garden, or lawn the best opportunity to reach its potential. Knowing what you are starting with or hand you have been delt is so important in making and keeping your plants alive.

When you get your results back, this is what you can expect to see.

Nutrients: a breakdown as to what nutrients (macronutrients and micronutrients) are in your soil sample that you provided. Generally, the test results will show an "acceptable range" where the sample should fall and the actual number that the sample test showed. While the range provided is an excellent guide, it should be used as a starting point. It is necessary to know the preferred pH and nutrient levels of the plant you are trying to grow.  The N-P-K, or macronutrients are what most of the focus is on when fertilizer is discussed. They are the main important ones that need to be there in order for your plant to grow. However, they alone are not sufficient to grow healthy plants. You will also find that micronutrients are just as necessary in order to grow healthy plants.

Organic matter: decaying plants and animals in various stages of decomposition. The decaying organic matter, when in the presence of minerals forms Humus and is crucial for microorganisms growth and the fertility of the soil. It has so many benefits such as improving water flow and holding capacity. It increases a soils CEC, provides food for living organisms and over time can result in the stabilization of the organic matter levels.

When your results are given back you may find that your soil is lacking in areas. Amendments can be added that will have a direct effect on any of the troublesome areas. You can change any problems with natural fertilizers and amendments to achieve your desired results.
