Flowers

Why Procut Sunflowers are amazing.

When everything is exhausted and struggling in the garden late summer, my appreciation of drought tolerant plants reaches new levels. One that has my full love and obsession is sunflowers. In particular, Procut sunflowers. These beauties are so easy to grow and care for! Lets talk why.

Here are several reasons why they are so popular:

    1. Long vase life: Which means they can stay fresh and attractive for a long time after being cut. When I harvest them at the right time, I can get a minimum of 1 week out of them. The longest vase life I’ve had was close to 2 weeks! This makes them a popular choice for flower arrangements and bouquets.
    2. Large blooms: Procut sunflowers are known for their large, showy blooms, which can measure up to 10 inches in diameter. These impressive flowers make a bold statement in any garden or floral display.
    3. Easy to grow: They are easy to grow and care for, making them a favorite among gardeners of all levels. Sunflowers are adaptable to different soil types and climates and can be grown from seed with minimal effort.
    4. Versatility: These flowers can be used in a variety of ways, from adding color to gardens and landscapes to providing a food source for birds and other wildlife. They are also a popular choice for cut flower arrangements, weddings, and other special occasions.
    5. Availability: Procut sunflowers are widely available in garden centers, nurseries, and online retailers, making them easy to obtain and incorporate into any gardening or decorating project.

Where to get seeds?

I do succession planting with these flowers. Meaning I plant my crops in two-week intervals. The sunflowers are started in soil blocks and then are planted out every two weeks. Soil blocking is my preferred method of starting seeds. You can check out my thoughts on soil blocking here on my blog.

I purchase 90% of my sunflower seeds (in particular the Procut) from Johnny’s (not a sponsored post). The rest I pick up while shopping in box store and randomly snag a pack. Because let’s face it. Every single seed display in any store I go into requires me look at it before I leave.

To summarize things. Sunflowers, in particular Procut sunflowers are easy to grow. These flowers have almost zero maintenance and add so much beauty to the garden. They come in a wide variety of sizes and colors. Plus, make an excellent addition to any of any size.,
